Nottingham Forest won the tie 2–0 on aggregate, and went on to win the competition. [ 38 ] Liverpool entered the 1979–80 European Cup as English champions but were again eliminated in the first round, this time beaten 4–2 on aggregate by Dinamo Tbilisi of the Soviet Union. [ 39 ]
