During the war, from December 18 to December 29 in 1972, the U.S. launched an unprecedentedly large air campaign targeting Hanoi. Over 12 days and nights of intense fighting, Hanoi’s soldiers and civilians shot down 25 B-52 bombers, one of which had left its wreckage around Huu Tiep Lake. A part of the bomber remains submerged in the lake.
